Veliko Gradiste on map Europe
Gradiste surrounds some of the most picturesque natural beauties, popular Silver Lake (serb. Srebrno Jezero) made of artificially divided Danube channel; captivating mountain river Pek, which flows from Serbian eastern regions and ends its meanders in its estuary at river Danube not far away from Veliko Gradiste. Proximity to Silver Lake, Danube and Pek made this town a well renowned heaven for Fisherman and nature admirers in general.
Lack of industry and promotion of environment friendly policies has made the Gradiste's region very attractive for tourist developments. There are only few factories, engaged mainly in light industries. To mention only some:
"Dunavka" manufacturer of cooking oil; "Moda" leather designer and clothing manufacturer;
the rest of industry is agricultural. Pig farms, corn and wheat growers, tomato plantations and others.
Ethnically, Gradiste's county is mainly populated by the Serbs (92%), employed within government and fast growing private businesses.
In seventies, estimated 3,500 people temporarily immigrated to Western European countries, mainly Italy, Austria and Germany.
